Ice Castle Branches:
Cut or gather broken off tree branches and trim the stem to desired height. Lay cardboard on the ground and spray paint each branch with white or a metallic spray paint of your choice to match your home’s color scheme. Allow an hour to dry and avoid messy hands. Spray one branch with adhesive glue spray paint. Using the cardboard to catch excess glitter, sprinkle silver or clear glitter onto the branch so the excess glitter falls onto the cardboard sheet and re-use glitter to coat each branch. For more of an icicle effect, paint some all-purpose tacky glue in random clusters along the branch and cover the glue with diamond/crystal vase filler.
Tip: to avoid vacuuming glitter or falling crystals, add a top coat of Plaid Mod Podge Clear Acrylic Sealer. This will also help preserve your beautiful branches for next year. Add the finished branches to oversized hurricane glasses filled with pine cones or white/silver christmas tree ornaments.
Old Sweater Throw Pillows
Turn the sweater inside out and stuff the pillow inside to make sure it fits. Using a sewing machine (or free hand if you are confident) sew a straight line across the top of the sweater, below the neck opening and along the sides, leaving the sleeves outside the stitching. Repeat the seams twice, minimum to assure reinforcement.
Leave the bottom open to slip off the throw pillows seasonally. Fold the ends like you would gift wrap a present. Finish by adding embellishments like wood buttons to close the pillow covers or sew on snaps or Velcro to seal. Tip: use various sized throw pillows and winter whites for a clean yet elegant decor.
Wall Flowers
Restore an old wood frame with a coat of paint to match your home color scheme. Let paint dry thoroughly. Recycle appropriate sized glass or plastic bottles by cleaning labels off and scrubbing debris off completely. If you prefer to purchase small vases at a craft store to avoid extra cleaning, be mindful of the vases weight. Using burlap ribbon or twine, create a pull through loop around the frame. Wrap the twine around the neck of the bottles 5-8 times, moving the twine in opposite directions around it to secure it well. Tie the two ends of the roping together well, adding a bow if you’d like the extra embellishment. Repeat steps with the remaining bottles. Hang the frame and add water to each vase and hang flowers or herbs.
