We took a look at the top three Wedding Themes of the season, offering tips on how to customize each theme based on every bride’s own unique personality.
Whimsical Wedding Theme
The whimsical theme can include anything bright and fun like something of a real life storybook illustration. Think magical fairyland, meets Where the Wild Things Are, although the word whimsical can really be open for interpretation.
Decor: Flowers and centerpieces usually include a woodland aspect such as curly willow branches, succulents mixed with brightly colored large flowers. Giant paper flowers are also used in backdrops or as an alternative to bouquets.
Colors: A monochromatic or bright color schemes are usually applied in whimsical weddings. For monochromatic pallets, many brides will opt for single color bouquets, varying with each bridesmaid, or using streaming ribbons throughout the reception ceiling, trees outdoors or on the backs of chairs. The more classic whimsical theme might stick with one bright color, like Salmon and implement it in the lighting and throughout large extravagant centerpieces.
Fashion: Brides may choose a simple gown with a small splash of color on a sash or she may go all out with her fairy-tale dress, incorporating the theme with lace, embellished backs and flowing layers or ruffled skirts. Bridesmaid gowns can be short and playful or mismatched, while groomsmen will usually implement a pop color in bow ties, suspenders or even socks.
Vintage Glam Wedding Theme
This theme is one for ages, meaning it is a timeless classic that will most likely always be popular for weddings. A Vintage Glam theme can be interpreted as Art Deco, like a Great Gatsby wedding or Old Hollywood glamour as in Casablanca.
Decor: Tables will often have a metallic accent, whether it’s a glittering table runner or bronze silverware. Centerpieces can incorporate chandeliers or candelabras with draping crystal strands with towering floral topiaries. For brides looking to substitute flowers, the Vintage Glam theme often replaces flowers with feathers, lamps and even the use of brooches in bouquets.
Colors: Metallic and jewel tones are represented in reception decor and bridesmaid dresses, giving the wedding a lavish pallet. Blush and neutrals are often paired together in romantic vintage themes, while shimmering metallics like champagne and gold with a deep burgundy or a bright pop color bring an art deco theme together perfectly.
Fashion: Bespoke suits and fitted flowing gowns bring that old hollywood glamour back from time. A Brides gown may have a cowl neckline and curvy train, while her bridesmaids are draped in shimmering sequins, lace or satin. The Groomsmen are extremely well dressed in tapered three-piece suits or in all linen, depending on the season. The use of top hats and other fun accessories can be used to tie the theme together perfectly.
Festival Wedding Theme
This is one of the more trendy wedding themes for the season. This bohemian wedding theme is modeled based on Festivals like Burning Man, Coachella and Art Basel. It’s the type of theme that works for the artistic couple, contemporary/abstract taste and the bohemian bride.
Decor: You can really have fun with the decor for a festival theme. Circus Stripe tents, Chalkboard signage around cocktail buffets, oversized hot-air balloon centerpieces or to accent the reception ceiling and big wave flags in beautiful colors are just a few fun ways to incorporate this theme. One very popular trend for the festival theme is giant marquee signage, available through rental companies like Shape Street in Deer Park. Many couples will opt for something generic like an enormous “LOVE” marquee sign so their guests can take photos together.
Colors: With the festival theme, some couples will opt for big bursts of multiple colors and pastels, while others looking to keep their wedding a little more high end, will stick with variations of one color, such as shades of purple and lavender. Naked cakes (no icing) dressed up with colorful flowers and paper lanterns with colored LED lighting make for subtle ways to implement a festival color scheme. Bouquets can include a mix of wild edibles, bohemian blooms like anemone, ranunculus and dahlias and succulents. For the fun and vibrant festival pallet, cascading hand tied bouquets of vibrant colored peonies, dahlias, calla lilies and button mums mixed with thistles, astilbes and greenery like eucalyptus, will assure a conversation piece your guests won’t forget.
Fashion: Bridal gowns can range from short and playful to long flowing and soft. Styles include off the shoulder, short sleeves and V-shaped open back dresses with simple embroidery. Floral headbands and cowboy boots are a fun and playful accent for the daring bride. Bridesmaid dresses can range from floral, two-piece and short dresses all the way to grecian and mix-matched. The groomsmen fashion can be as casual as jeans and suspenders or formal and fun colored three-piece suits. Boater, Fedora and Ivy Caps are a popular accessory, along with crazy socks, bright ties/bow-ties and sunglasses.
