On the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, the Town of Smithtown received notice via email, from the residential carter for Districts #4 and #7, terminating services effective immediately. Town officials assembled immediately to conceive a plan to ensure that residents would have a carter to pickup curbside trash and recycling without substantial disruptions.
Approximately 20% of Smithtown (or 7100 household units) will be impacted by this abrupt notice throughout the township.
District #4 is located in the hamlet of St. James, along the borders of Brookhaven, the Villages of Nissequogue & Head of the Harbor, edging Northern Boulevard and Route 25 (Middle Country Road). District #7 is located in the hamlet of Smithtown, edging along the perimeter of Main Street, from NYS Route 25 to Wyandanch Boulevard, NYS Route 454 to NYS Route 111, circling back to Main Street. Residents can view their Carter District online at the Town of Smithtown Website, Via the Department of Environment and Waterways Page or Click Here.
A large scale version of this map is available for inspection at the Town of Smithtown Department of Environment and Waterways, 124 West Main Street, Smithtown.
