The Mechanical Bulls, are the winners of the John T. Mather Memorial Hospital’s fifth annual High School Robotics Club competition. The Smithtown Central School District’s robotics team, took home the first place victory, for the fourth consecutive year. The annual competition was held on January 30th at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove.
The annual High School Robotics Club competition was held as a part of Mather’s annual Interactive Community Health Fair. Each teams of seven students, compete using the da Vinci surgical robot simulation. Each teammate must use the simulator to complete a series of tasks. A point system is based on each teammate’s individual performance using the robot.
The Mechanical Bulls will move forward to their next big event; the FIRST Robotics Competition. The bulls will finish building, programing and testing their FIRST Stronghold robots, before heading to Rochester Institute of Technology and Hofstra University to compete for glory. The FIRST Robotics Competition is comprised of 3,000 teams of over 78,000 students worldwide.
