Northport High School Project Vets hosts Veterans Day panel presentation, An inspiring fight for freedom through the eyes of heroes
Northport High School students are stepping up to the plate today to honor the brave men and women of our Nation who have served our Country throughout major wars in history. In honor of Veterans day, Northport High School has invited veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq wars for an honorary panel presentation. The Northport High School Social Studies Department, along with the high school’s organization Project Vets, have been busy preparing for today, hanging a handmade wall of heroes in the Halls and preparing meals for each Veteran.
Veterans day began with a special Thank You breakfast for their special guests, prepared by students in culinary classes at the high school. A presentation is scheduled to take place each school period, breaking for a Thank You Lunch, for the Veterans in the afternoon. The inspiring presentation is intended to both teach students as to why we owe a debt of gratitude to every US Veteran and make the day special for Northport High School’s honorary guests.
Northport High School’s Project Vets is led by Darryl St. George, a United States Navy, combat veteran and a respected history teacher at the School. The group of Northport High School students organize and volunteer in various events, fundraisers and programs throughout the school year, dedicated to honoring and assisting veterans and their families in the community. In the past, NHS Project VETS has helped to fundraise for the Northport VA Hospital and helps raise community awareness regarding home and healthcare for local Veterans.
