The Town of Smithtown Personnel Department, in collaboration with the New York Blood Center, hosted a blood drive at Smithtown Landing Country Club. The event took place on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. The willingness of donors, along with the efficient efforts of New York Blood Center employees conducting medical screenings, resulted in 35 healthy individuals being able to donate blood to help save lives.
“Our Personnel Department and its Director, Eileen Tropea, do a spectacular service to our community with this annual blood drive. I am thrilled that so many people gave blood, and I hope more are inspired to follow in the footsteps of our residents and employees who participated yesterday.” – Supervisor Ed Wehrheim
“Blood products save lives, they help people in need. All it takes is a simple blood screening to make a difference. If you pass the blood screening, you are able to donate and truly help someone who is in need. At the end of the day, there truly is no substitute for blood.” – Som Persaud, New York Blood Team Leader.
Donors were able to register, complete a medical screening, have their blood pressure and pulse taken, and iron and hemoglobin levels checked within minutes. Upon completing the blood screening, they were able to donate. Refreshments and snacks were provided to all donors as well.
“I want to be able to help people in need. There should never be a shortage if someone needs blood. Whether it is children, or just anyone in need, I just like to help out.” – Pete Dipinto, blood donor.
