Smithtown Today is asking our readers, businesses and residents throughout the five villages of Smithtown to be a part of history and light the Town Blue for the month of April. By replacing outdoor lights with blue light bulbs, residents will become a part of a special understanding, showing love and support for the many families, children and grown adults within our community affected by Autism. By lighting a home or business in blue, we expand a circle of support, promote understanding and encourage education about the exceptionally unique children and adults on the Spectrum throughout Long Island. Light the Town Blue is a special initiative in collaboration with Autism Speaks Long Island, thanks to Kathleen Lanese, the Light It Up Blue Chairperson.
During the month of April, we will feature local businesses who hire young adults aging out of Autism services as well as news and studies on the aging out crisis. Smithtown Today will report on a number of extraordinary locals who go above and beyond for autism awareness, businesses who donate services or product to help fund research to improve the quality of life for thousands of gifted men, women and children. We plan to fill our publication with a plethora of information, resources and inspirational stories this month and hope to maintain awareness for years to come.
Over the next week, we will be asking the Community to sponsor a neighborhood block, which we will then deliver blue light bulbs and support ribbons to. Smithtown Today will feature businesses and private citizens who help us in our daily editorial segments on Autism. If you’d like to be a part of this beautiful gesture to show the Country how Smithtown residents come together for a greater cause, please email us at editor@SmithtownTodayNews.com
