Residents in a Central Islip were awoken suddenly yesterday morning by the sound of gun shots. At approximately 5:50 A.M. Neighbors on Nicoll Avenue called 911 with reports of shots fired. Suffolk County Police Officers in the Third Precinct responded to the call on Nicoll Avenue, just south of Messina Street, shortly after.
Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered a man, lying on the street, who was pronounced dead shortly after, by a Physician’s Assistant at the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office. The victim was identified as Jonathan Cardona-Hernandez, a 16 year old boy.
