Kindergartners at Branch Brook Elementary School got a special visit from Stony Brook University Children’s Hospital faculty for a Teddy bear Clinic last Friday. Each student brought a stuffed animal from home, to learn how to treat their “sick” Teddy bears. The concept was created to help alleviate the unease, children associate with hospitals and doctors.
The Teddy bear workshop, taught the kindergartners to diagnose first, prior to performing the proper medical treatments each “sick” stuffed animal. After checking weight and temperature, they applied bandages and dispensed proper medicines based on each conditions. In addition to the hands-on clinic work, the students got lessons in keeping safe in the car, wearing seat-belts, using booster seats and wearing a helmet while bike riding or playing sports.
