The Teal Pumpkin Project

teal pumpkin project

Tyler & Madden’s Food Fight Gala is just around the corner and so is Halloween. Be a part of the Teal Pumpkin Project, an international movement that is making Halloween safer and happier for all kids, regardless of Food Allergies. When you place a teal colored pumpkin on your doorstep, you are telling kids and their parents that you have non-candy treats available.

The FARE Teal Pumpkin Project promotes trick-or-treating for kids with food allergies or other conditions… plus it’s healthier for everyone. We got a bit carried away, looking for amazing non-candy alternatives to be the very best neighbor to kids and parents alike this Halloween.

Lego Pumpkin inspired by Repeat Craft Me

halloween_teal_pumpkin1Fill up a clear favor bag with orange legos and tie it with a green ribbon or pipe cleaners. You can order orange bricks via Lego’s Pick a Brick center. Click for Link or buy 200 bricks by color for $16.33 on Amazon.  We ordered 300 orange bricks for $30 online, and were able to make 15 pumpkins (20 bricks per bag). You can switch it up and fill bags with all white legos for a ghost or green for a which. TIP: Use a sharpie black marker and draw fun faces on the favor bags before filling.

Halloween bracelet craft

halloween_teal_pumpkinFill up test tubes or plastic vials with orange, black and green beads. Wrap black lanyard around the tubes and add a spooky label. We found glow in the dark beads at Oriental trading (5000 beads for $7.99) and found some great kid-friendly beads at Michael’s Crafts to go with them. We bought black plastic lacing from Michaels, sold in 100 yard rolls for $2.99. Finally, we got the plastic test tubes from Oriental Trading ($6.99 per dozen) but we found them at Walmart for a little less than a dollar more.

For the not-so-crafty – Glow in the dark fun

teal pumpkin projectGlow in the dark toys, bracelets and sticks are a fun Halloween treat for all ages. You can buy glow sticks, toys and neon accessories in bulk from online stores like oriental trading and amazon. If you have a Styrofoam ball, you can make a fantastic display by cutting it in half and inserting each glowing band, necklace or toy into the foam to make a groovy disco light. If time and creativity are not on your side, simply place all of the glow sticks in a plastic clear vase and wrap a few of the bands around it with some black mesh ribbon.

Buy Non-Candy Treats in bulk:

Oriental Trading sells great non-candy assortment bags and treasure chests already filled with toys, starting at $19.95. Other great options to give out in lieu of candy include:

  • Vampire fangs
  • Stickers
  • Bubbles
  • Bouncy balls
  • Whoopie Cushions
  • Monster Slime
  • Flashlight
  • Trading cards
