First Grade Students at Tackan spread a little Christmas kindness… one note at a time
The adorable first graders in Elise Viola’s and Erin O’Connor’s class at Tackan Elementary School surprised teachers and staff members with notes of Christmas kindness yesterday. The first grade class finished reading The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas, by Laura Murray with illustrations by Mike Lowery. The book is all about giving a little Christmas kindness to everyone.
After reading The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas, the first graders in Elise Viola’s and Erin O’Connor’s class were inspired to follow in the Gingerbread Man’s footsteps. And so they hand crafted Thank You notes and Christmas Cards for members of the Tackan Elementary School faculty. The class then went door to door and delivered each card, along with a big group hug from the entire class.
About the Story:
Everyone in the gingerbread man’s class is busy making goodies, gifts and songs to deliver to people in town. However, the Gingerbread Man decides his gift is for someone extra special to him. Before he can deliver his gift, the weather sends the class back to school. The gingerbread man risks his own life and limb, literally to give his Christmas card to the baker who helped to create him. The baker saves the Gingerbread man by making him Chocolate boots. The Gingerbread man runs back to school in time to deliver the final gift from the class, a poem just for the teacher.
It’s easy to caught up in all holiday hoopla, forgetting the real meaning behind Christmas. Lucky for us, we have little first grade helpers, reminding us what the giving season is all about.
