Suffolk County Legislator Robert Trotta Congratulates Eagle Scout

Suffolk County Legislator Robert Trotta praised Matthew O’Connell of Commack for achieving the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout at his recent Court of Honor. Prior to the ceremony, The Jazz Messengers performed and Scott Byers played a solo rendition of the National Anthem on the sax.

For his Eagle Scout Community Service Project, Matthew installed fencing around an enclosure that houses animals at Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown to insure that they are protected. Forty-two individuals helped with the project including fellow scouts, friends and family.

“In addition to being an Eagle Scout, Matthew is also a scholar, athlete, Intel STS Semi-Finalist, Google Science Fair Regional Finalist, Intel ISEF Finalist, and a poet who won first place in the Hofstra 2013 Spanish Poetry Reading Competition,” said Legislator Trotta.

“Matthew has demonstrated he is capable of responsibility and leadership by completing the tasks necessary to becoming an Eagle Scout. He is a computer whiz and I hope that when he graduates from college that he will return to Suffolk County and continue to be a valued member of the community,” said Suffolk County Legislator Robert Trotta.
