Comptroller Kennedy Proud to Attend Groundbreaking Ceremony at Suffolk County Community College

Comptroller John M. Kennedy, Jr. joined fellow elected officials this past Monday, along with College President Dr. Shaun L. McKay, the Board of Trustees, Administration, Students, Faculty and Staff, in celebration of the beginning construction for a State-of-The-Art Library/Learning Resource Center, at  Suffolk County Community College Grant Campus. Funding for the new $28.2 million, 74,198 square foot Learning Resource Center and library is shared equally by Suffolk County government and New York State.

Comptroller Kennedy expressed his enthusiasm for the beginning of construction on the Library and Learning Resource Center, which he has actively pursued for the last 8 years, as both a Legislator and County Comptroller.

The new Learning Resource Center is said to be considered the heart of the campus, bringing together all the academic support including the math, science, reading and writing centers all housed in a state-of-the-art technologically innovative building.

The 18 month construction of the new Learning Resource Center will house the library presently in the Sagtikos Building and also include:

  • A 95 seat lecture hall
  • Classrooms
  • A writing center
  • A reading center
  • Computer labs
  • Tutoring rooms
  • Testing rooms
  • Offices
  • An information commons
  • A Board of Trustees room
  • A teaching and learning center
  • A photo/video studio
  • • Photo/video labs and offices
