An automatic alarm, reporting a fierce blaze at the Stonebridge Country Club maintenance shop and golf cart storage facility, came in just after 6 PM Thursday, October 29. The Smithtown Fire Department arrived at 2000 Raynors Way shortly there after, upgrading the alarm to a structural fire.
With assistance from the Hauppauge and Nesconset fire departments and ambulance support from Central Islip/Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance, firefighters launched an exterior attack on the fully engulfed, two story building.
Smithtown Fire Department’s Jeff Bressler reports that members of the Smithtown and Hauppauge ladder companies led the primary attack with support from hose lines that were deployed along the outside exposure.
“Once the majority of fire was knocked down entry was made into the lower level of the facility to conduct a search. The search determined no one was in the building and there was no extension of fire.” -Jeff Bressler Public Information Officer for Smithtown Fire Department
After a three hour battle with the blaze, firefighters were able to determine it was under control at 8:50 PM. The golf cart storage facility suffered catastrophic damage, upon assessment. The lower level of the facility used to house maintenance equipment was heavily damaged.
