Never underestimate the power of a few committed, passionate business people
By Terri Alessi-Miceli, President, HIA-LI
During nearly four decades, the HIA-LI has grown to represent tens of thousands of business professionals. While once a small organization located in the Hauppauge Industrial Park, we are now one of the most recognized voices for business on Long Island and a powerful force and economic engine for regional development. Our community outreach has fed the hungry, supplied blood for emergencies, provided scholarships for Long Island college students and strengthened businesses throughout the region.
And we are not done yet!
We continue to spearhead initiatives to address problems affecting the Hauppauge Industrial Park – infrastructure issues such as sewer capacity, roads and transportation. And, while the maintenance and economic development of the Park is one of our primary concerns, it is only one of our tasks. Since our membership encompasses Long Island and beyond, our overall objective is to enhance the economic climate and overall quality of life of the Long Island business region for the benefit of our members.
HIA-LI has continued to conduct extensive focus groups with members and prospects and have identified several continued and new key initiatives that will help business survive and thrive now and in the future:
HIA-LI Initiatives
- Collaborative Efforts. We continue to focus on partnerships and collaborative efforts that help increase visibility and viability for LI business.
- Manufacturing Revitalization. We profile manufacturing on LI helping obtain funds to operate more efficiently and create opportunities for a skilled manufacturing workforce.
- Workforce Development. We develop solutions to attract, blend and retain employees and keep youth on LI.
- Healthcare. We explore existing and emerging strategies for containing healthcare costs.
- Infrastructure. We identify and develop plans to address critical infrastructure needs of the Hauppauge Industrial Park that will foster the continued growth of business.
- Environment Of Business Success. We create forums to educate and connect business growth and survival. Promote the HIA-LI Annual Trade Show and conference as a forum for important connection and discussion on economic, business, and workforce development issues.
- Alternative Energy. We profile and promote energy efficiency to LI businesses. Educate and showcase environmental and energy services.
- Virtual HIA-LI. We enable our members to collaborate, connect and deliver added value by sharing knowledge with current and future members and the global world.
We encourage area business leaders to get involved through our committees and other HIA-LI initiatives that help you do business and make a difference. Margaret Mead once said, “Never underestimate the power of a few committed passionate people. It is the thing that can change the world.” Our member-driven philosophy and courage to forge forward together allows us to better compete in this economy. We encourage you to join us
