The young Olympians of tomorrow staged a Summer Olympics Games of their own yesterday. As the world’s greatest athletes prepared for the opening ceremony, Students, enrolled in the summer program at Smithtown Elementary School enjoyed a Summer Olympic Games Field Day. The day’s events included patriotic attire, making torches, crowns and banners and a slew of fun athletic races.
On Thursday, August 4th, just one day before the opening of the 2016 Summer Olympics Games, the fields of Smithtown Elementary were filled with students wearing red, white and blue. The variety of field day activities, included potato sack races, relay races, balancing and tire rolling contests. Each student got the chance to make their very own Olympic torch, crown and banner to best represent Team USA on the field at the Elementary School.
The competitors spent the morning having fun, imagining the possibility of shining in the arena some day, while testing athletic abilities. Before the day ended, Summer program students got a special visit from the ice cream truck to cool them down after a day of challenging their physical prowess.
