Smithtown’s Jane Conway Named Zonta Suffolk County Legacy

The global organization Zonta, acclaimed for its advocacy work, empowering and advancing the status of women everywhere, has named Smithtown’s Jane Conway as its Suffolk County Legacy. The Zonta Suffolk County Chapter commemorated the 50th anniversary at a dinner Gala on September 28th, 2016. Influential local officials including Legislator Leslie Kennedy, Comptroller John Kennedy, Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Legislator Rob Trotta and former State Supreme Court Judge Alfred Lama attended the celebration to applaud Conway as she was honored with the prestigious title.

“I congratulate Jane Conway on her leadership, volunteerism and community involvement and thank her for her service to the people of Suffolk County,” -Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta.

Since 1979, Jane Conway has been a member of Zonta, serving as president twice and currently serves as the Chair of the District 3 By-Laws Committee. The Smithtown super woman has held practically every title within the club at one point or another. The former Smithtown Town Councilwoman has been a licensed attorney for approximately 45 years. In her spare time, Jane Conway stays active in many not-for-profit organizations.

The Zonta Club of Suffolk County is just one part of a global organization of professional women who devote their time and expertise to the Zonta International vision of a world where every woman is able to achieve her full potential. In Suffolk County, the Zonta club fundraises and hosts events to provide scholarships for young women. Members also mentor the residents at Madonna Heights, advocate on behalf of women rights and offer presentations on various women related issues.
