Smithtown Nor'Easter

According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning will remain in effect beginning at midnight tonight until 6 PM Tuesday. Snow is expected to fall mainly after 11 PM, with wind gusts from the north averaging between 14-17 mph with gusts as high as 28 mph. Snowfall will be heavy at times with an average accumulation between 1-2 inches per hour. Suffolk County could see snowfall totals between 5-10 inches.

On Tuesday, the snow is expected to begin to taper off after 2pm. A breezy northwest wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph are expected.

Travel is not recommended as conditions will make for a slippery and dangerous morning commute.

WARNINGS ISSUED BY THE NWS FOR OUR AREA:

A Winter storm warning is in effect until 6 PM Tuesday.

A Coastal Flood statement has been issued for our area with the morning tide, in effect from 7 AM – 12 PM Tuesday.

Animals & Family Pets: All domestic animals should remain indoors during the snowstorm, with the exception of allowing dogs to venture out to go to the bathroom. Elderly Neighbors & Special Needs individuals: Please check on your neighbors with disabilities, special needs and senior citizens. Make sure they have an emergency phone, plenty of water, food and blankets. Ask if they have someone to call in the event of an emergency.
