Congratulations of the highest order go to one Smithtown H.S. West student. Senior, Ryan Scheinberg has be chosen to receive the prestigious National Merit Scholarship. Scheinberg was selected out of 15,000 finalist across the Country to receive the $2,500 Scholarship. The National Merit Winner will put his Scholarship money to good use, as he attends Cornell University in the fall.

From 1.5 million applicants, 15,000 finalists were chosen to move forward onto the final round of selection. Out of the finalists, 7400 National Merit $2,500 Scholarship Competition winners were chosen based on a number of abilities, skills and accomplishments. The Competition evaluates each participant based on academic record, the school’s curriculum, grading system, PSAT & SAT scores, an official written recommendation from the school, extracurricular activities, leadership and personal essay.
