It takes heart and real drive to train and run in the Winter we’ve just endured. For Smithtown High School East Winter Track stars, Dan Claxton and Jackie Gallery, all their efforts have come full circle. Dan Claxton, who is the Smithtown High School East record-holder for the high jump, won second place at New York State Championships at Cornell University this year. Claxton’s high jump measured in with a leap of 6’ 8.” Sophomore, Jackie Gallery, surpassed her previous school record and qualifying run, placing sixth in the state for the 3000m run with a time of 10:10.08.
Congratulations are most definitely in order to Dan Claxton and his coaches, Kathleen Borbet and Brian Willman as well as Jackie Gallery and her coaches, Greg Schepanski and Helen Flynn. The impressive representation of Smithtown School District at the New York State Championships for Winter Track will truly be revered for years to come.
