Thirty-one students from Smithtown Central School District traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, from April 23-26 to compete at the DECA International Career Development Conference.
In order to compete in this event, students had to qualify by placing at the state level in Rochester, New York, in March. There were more than 18,000 students from all over the country competing at the international competition.
Smithtown High School East had two finalist teams – Allison Adams and Tara Korkus in the Independent Business Plan Competition and Ryan Micozzi in the Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling Event. Micozzi also received a medal for his presentation. In addition, Micozzi and Jainee Gabrielsen were honored again for winning the Herff Jones Marketing Results Challenge.
Smithtown High School West had two finalist teams and a Top 10 Overall Finalist Team. Darian Kane-Stolz and Victoria Tiranno were named a finalist in the Entrepreneurship Promotion Project. The team of Cole DeMarco and Allison Schuchman secured a finalist spot in the Sports & Entertainment Marketing Operations Research Event and were also named a Top 10 Overall Finalist.
