Smithtown High School Sports Spotlight

As we approach the second half of the school year and the beginning of 2016, it’s always good to stop and recognize the accomplishments of our youth thus far. At both Smithtown High School East and West, the team leaders of tomorrow have broken records, been awarded scholar athletes, fundraised for local charities and have been recognized for exemplary sportsmanship by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. Smithtown Today’s Sports Spotlight features the highlights of the month of December.

Sports Spotlight Smithtown High School East – Girls Volleyball

Haley Anderson, a Junior at Smithtown H.S. East has been recognized for multiple honors for girls volleyball, this year. As a Junior, she was named Booster Club team Most Valuable Player of 2015. Anderson has also been selected for All-State, All-County, All-Tournament team and All-County Elite 8.  Newsday Named Haley Anderson a member of their All-Long Island volleyball first team, stating the junior “opened eyes this season” averaging 14 kills and 15 digs per match.

Sports Spotlight Smithtown High School West – Varsity Track

Smithtown High School West varsity track team Record Breakers; Ethan Scully, John Barone, Chris Quilla and Tyler Scully

The Varsity Track Team at Smithtown High School West set a new school record, at the North Shore Invitational meet. The Meet took place on December 26th, at the Armory Track and Field Center in Upper Manhattan. The quartet of Ethan Scully, John Barone, Chris Quilla and Tyler Scully shattered the record for the 4 x 200 meter relay, set in 1997. The 1997 record of 1:34.1 was beat by the four track stars, who finished the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:33.82.

Smithtown Central School District – Team Sportsmanship

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has recognized a number of Smithtown athletic teams for exemplifying the standards of sportsmanship for the 2015-2016 fall season. Each team named below was assessed by opposite teams in their division and classified as exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship:

    These teams have best exemplified the standards of sportsmanship as assessed by opposing teams within each league or division.
