The only thing more terrifying for a mother or father, than witnessing your child struggling to breath, is the feeling of helplessness that consumes a parent when they don’t know what’s wrong. Identifying a food allergy for the first time can be a long and very taxing process for a family. Two Smithtown couples, have begun to make a difference, in helping children and others dealing with food allergies.
Tyler & Madden’s Food Fight Foundation is a non-profit foundation founded by Smithtown residents, Marisa & Michael Catalanotto and Jennifer & Joseph Trovato. Named after the Son’s of both couples with serious food allergies, the charity was created to raise awareness and to fund research for all food allergies and to assist in educating pediatricians and allergists around the globe. Together, they have partnered with Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Jaffe Institute to help find answers to unexplained spikes in food allergy outbreaks, to develop treatment and possible cures to combat allergic reactions in children and adults all over the world.
“Having to experience watching our son Madden suffer from the symptoms of anaphylaxis was the most terrifying moment of my life. When My husband and I were presented with the opportunity to help the prestigious doctors at Mt. Sinai Hospital and raise funds to find a cure for food allergies, there was no doubt that we would do anything that we could to support the cause and potentially change the lives of all who are affected.” – Co-Founder Marisa Catalanotto
Tyler & Madden’s Food Fight Foundation is currently seeking sponsorships from local businesses to help host an inaugural Gala for Food Allergy Research. The event will take place on October 15th, 2015 at North Shore Country Club in Glen Head, NY. All proceeds from sponsorships, raffles and ticket sales will go to aid food allergen research. Smithtown Today will be reporting important research and vital information on food allergies leading up to the gala and will feature sponsors in our weekly segment.
