School is in session at Smithtown’s Parent University. After a huge success this past fall, the Smithtown Central School District in collaboration with the PTA, will host an evening Parent University at Smithtown High School East on Wednesday, March 25th from 7 pm – 9 pm. The event consists of fifteen workshops designed to equip parents with useful tools and information to help them raise happy, whole, productive children.
The Spring session at Parent U will include new and repeat workshops from the fall, after many parents couldn’t fit all of them into their schedule. There are new and updated workshops to hone and expand parenting skills. Every parent with a student currently enrolled in the Smithtown Central School District is invited and encouraged to attend.
Workshops include guidance for parents choosing special education programs for children with disabilities and how to figure out which plan is best suited to a child’s unique needs in response to his/her disability, be it neurological, physical, or both. Vital parenting workshops like Drugs Today: What a Parent Needs to Know, discuss the warning signs, new slang words, new peer pressures and stress that children face. New workshops to look forward to on understanding Social Apps and the Pitfalls/Positive uses for them in addition to many more useful parenting topics will be hosted by experts in each field.
