A nor’Easter storm is expected to affect our area through Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, rain will be heavy at times today, with the temperature falling to around 38 by 4pm. Winds from the north are expected to average between 18 – 23 mph, (Wind chill values between 25 and 30) this morning and increasing to 31 to 36 mph in the afternoon. Wind gust could go as high as 60 mph.
A rain and snow mix are expected to fall mainly before 5am, through the night and into Saturday morning. North winds are expected between 26 – 36 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. The storm is expected to taper off around 7am Saturday morning with residual flooding potential through early morning Sunday.
The Town of Smithtown Supervisor, Ed Wehrheim is asking residents to use caution traveling today.
“If you able to stay off the roads, please do so. Avoid travelling through large puddles or urban ponding and take extra time to commute this morning and evening. Please also keep emergency preparedness kits in your vehicle at all times and remember to charge all cell phones in the event of a power outage.” – Supervisor Ed Wehrheim
WARNINGS ISSUED BY THE NWS FOR OUR AREA:
A high wind warning will remain in effect through 6AM on Saturday morning. A Flood watch will remain in effect through tonight. A coastal flood advisory will remain in effect from 10am-1pm today and a coastal flood warning is in effect from 6PM Friday night through 2AM Saturday morning. Additionally, a coastal flood warning has been issued for 6AM saturday morning through 2AM Sunday morning.

All outdoor animals should be allowed inside as wind and rain conditions in this storm can be deemed fatal to animals. Elderly Neighbors & Special Needs individuals: Please check on your neighbors with disabilities, special needs and senior citizens.
