Congratulations Smithtown National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists

Less than one percent of the nation’s high school graduating seniors qualify as semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Which is cause for celebrating three of our own! Congratulations to John Compitello, Rachel Rock and Olivia Winkeler for an outstanding achievement.

Smithtown High School East senior, Olivia Winkeler, along with Smithtown High School West seniors John Compitello and Rachel Rock will continue as Semifinalist in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. The three students have been selected as an elite group of 16,000 students nationwide, chosen out of almost 1.4 million students for the opportunity to continue on for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million. The trio have been chosen not only for their exemplary academic records, but for thier participation in school and community activities, leadership skills, honors and awards they have received.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognizes superior  academic students throughout the Nation, by conducting nationwide academic scholarship programs. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has recognized 3 million students, providing approximately 387,000 scholarships worth over $1.5 billion since its conception in 1955.
