Smithtown Lights the Town Blue for Autism Awareness Month

Local Families and members of the community living with Autism will join with elected officials and town employees in the ceremonial kickoff to Light the Town Blue for the month of April.

The Town of Smithtown will host a special Light the Town Blue ceremony on Wednesday, April 3rd at 6:30 PM in front of Town Hall. The Ceremony will be led by Brendan Lanese (who is living with Autism) and his family. Prior to the lighting ceremony, Brendan will invite any residents living with Autism to assist him in illuminating the town in blue.

For the duration of April, giant puzzle pieces and blue lights embellish major landmarks throughout Smithtown, including Whisper the Bull, Town Hall, the Smithtown Parks and the Highway Department Grounds.

In 2018, Councilman Tom Lohmann and Parks Director Joe Arico helped to revive the tradition which began for the first time in April 2015.
Residents can pick up free blue light bulbs at the Town Council Office and at the opening ceremony.
