A neighbor, Keith Williams, had called 911 to report the blaze, before running into flames to assist in helping a woman from the home.  The three residents were taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center Smithtown and Kings Park Fire Department ambulances. Two of the residents were treated for smoke inhalation. The woman, who was rescued by the good Samaritan is listed as critical, suffering from severe burns.  One Smithtown firefighter was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center and was treated for a minor injury.

Lines were also used to attack a fire that was starting to spread at an adjacent house. The fire was quickly put out with significant damage to the siding.” – Jeff Bressler Smithtown Fire Department Public Information Officer
