Smithtown Historical Society Holiday Events Guide

The Smithtown Historical Society is kicking off the holiday season with a line up festive community favorites. Lucky for you, we got the scoop and have all the can’t miss details to mark on the calendar. From Christmas tree decorating to the annual fair favorites, the Smithtown Historical Society is the place to get in the holiday spirit.

Festival of trees

Imagine the beautiful grounds at the historical society, filled with decorated Christmas trees. Now imagine decorating one! The Festival of trees is new to the Historical Society this year. Running now through December 2nd, 2016, members of the community are invited to come decorate live trees throughout the Smithtown Historical Society grounds or one of the artificial trees inside the Brush Barn. The trees will be on display during the annual holiday luncheon and Christmas Fair, where the Historical Society will announce the winning tree on December 3rd.

Historical Society Holiday Luncheon

The annual holiday luncheon will mark the beginning of the historical society’s holiday traditions. On Friday, December 2nd, from 11:45 AM to 1 PM, residents are invited to enjoy an afternoon filled with delicious cuisine, shopping and exciting raffles. The lunch will feature an authentic Tetrazzini Lunch and a smorgasbord of treats donated by members of community. Shop for great stocking stuffers, handmade goods and more at the holiday boutique afterwards, or try your luck at the raffle table. This years Holiday Luncheon is sponsored by Gyrodyne, LLC best known in town for it’s beautiful event space, Flowerfield in St. James. Tickets for the Luncheon are only $15 and includes a free raffle ticket. Reservations are required for seating. Call 631-265-6768 to reserve your spot.

Smithtown Historical Society Christmas Fair

The folks at the Historical Society have really outdone themselves with the 2016 Annual Christmas Fair. News 12 Long Island has teamed up with Smithtown Historical Society to bring the community a spectacular holiday festival. On Saturday December 3rd, from 3 PM to 7 PM, enjoy Live bluegrass and Colonial music performances local talent. Children can look forward to meeting and taking photos with Santa from 2 PM to 3 PM. Other family oriented events include a shadow puppet show, a Lionel trains in motion display, winter hay rides, christmas caroling by the bonfire and more!  Shop for handmade and victorian crafts or try your luck at the Wreath Giveaway. Vote for your favorite holiday wreath and stay to see who wins the annual Community Wreath Contest. Tickets are only $5 for adults and $3 for children. The 2016 Christmas Fair is sponsored by One Fine Day Photography and People’s United Bank.

Fun Historical Society Saturdays for the Kids:

Other upcoming events include Super Saturdays on December 10th and 17th. Children are invited to make and bake christmas cookies and ornaments from 9:30 AM to noon. December 10th, children can learn how to make, decorate and enjoy cookie recipes of old and new traditions for Santa. December 17th, children are invited to create some outstanding ornaments, while they learn about the decorating traditions of Christmas Past. Admission is $22.50 for members and $25 for non-members.
