Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota has ordered Smithtown Highway Superintendent Glenn Jorgensen is to appear in First District Court this morning to answer to criminal charges filed by the Suffolk County D.A. The Smithtown Highway Superintendent is to report to Room D-11, which is a courtroom known for criminal arraignments.
Speculation as to the charges came last Thursday, after the Smithtown News erroneously published the complainant’s name, along with the allegations that Jorgensen asked his employee to falsify road paving documents, after the town engineer determined it was too cold to do so. An investigation was launched in December, by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office, regarding claims that a field report with factitious weather conditions for road paving in November was coerced by the Department of Highways’ Superintendent.
Glenn Jorgensen has worked for the town of Smithtown for nearly 40 years, within the highway department. Since his appointment as Smithtown Highway Superintendent in 2010, Saint James resident has been responsible for overseeing roughly 150 employees. Jorgensen is in charge of the Town’s snow and ice removal operations as well as maintaining over 470 miles of roads, drainage systems, recharge basins and a fleet of 200 vehicles, from cars and trucks to various construction equipment. The Smithtown Highway Department handles all necessary road patching, street sweeping, and the removal of brush and leaf bags.
