Smithtown High Schools Dominate at L.I. Physics Olympics

Both Smithtown’s high schools are enjoying a victory lap this week. On March 23rd, teams from Smithtown H.S. East and West competed against 16 schools throughout Long Island in the Physics Olympics, held at Farmingdale State College. The physics team from Smithtown High School East was crowned first place victors, while H.S. West took home second place last Wednesday.

In addition to its first place overall finish, Smithtown High School East finished first in Fermi Questions, second in Pendulum of Doom and second in the Physics Bowl. Members of Smithtown High School East’s Physics team include: Sanjana Eranki, Andrew Tamis, Jake Taub, Brendan Volz and Ruisi Zhong.

Smithtown High School West also ranked second in Fermi Questions, first in Pendulum of Doom and third in the Physics Bowl. Members of Smithtown High School West’s Physics team includ: Stephen Kyranakis, Ryan Scheinberg, Sasha Sokolov, Bradley Zhou and Cory Zhou.
