Three Smithtown Firefighters Run for a Cause in Full Turnout Gear
Three of Smithtown’s bravest spent September 11th, running a 5k in full turnout gear. Mike Dwyer and Nicholas Chiarelli of Engine Company 3 and Stephen Vasquez of Engine Company 4, wanted to honor the memory of those first responders who ran into the Twin Towers, fourteen years ago. So the three firefighters dressed in full turnout gear, waving American flags and completed the 9/11 Hero’s Run 5K in Huntington, just over 40 minutes.
The 9/11 Hero’s Run 5K in Huntington was held this past Saturday, on September 12th to benefit the Travis Manion Foundation. This was just one run held throughout thousands of communities, on an international scale, intended to preserve the memory of the bravest men and women, assuring that the sacrifices made on September 11th, 2001 and in the aftermath will never be forgotten.
About the Travis Manion Foundation:
After Janet Manion lost her son; 1st Lt. Travis Manion, who gave his life in Iraq on April 29, 2007, the Marine’s mother, began a foundation in his name to assist Veterans and the families of our nation’s fallen. The Travis Manion Foundation helps to support veterans and families of the fallen through all stages of their personal journeys, through mentorships, Advocacy and events like the 9/11 Heroes Run. The Travis Manion Foundation believes that the best way to honor the fallen is by challenging the living to continue serving the community, exemplifying the heroes who have sacrificed and served the nation.
Smithtown Today would like to applaud Mike Dwyer, Nicholas Chiarelli and Stephen Vasquez for honoring the memory of the first responders of September 11th, 2001 in such memorable fashion.
