The Smithtown Fire Chiefs Council awarded Five Scholarships to students affiliated with the Smithtown Volunteer Fire Department during the January 8th meeting. Smithtown Fire Chiefs Council President Ex-Chief Steve Fontana awarded the five $250 scholarships to William Theobalt, Gabrielle Lee Sisino, John Carrature, Jonathan Kriklava and John Bicocchi. The parents of recipients, accepting the awards include Ex-Chief William Theobalt of St. James F.D., Chief Steven Sisino of Smithtown F.D., Donna Carrature of Hauppauge F.D. and Ex-Chief Thomas Kriklava of Hauppauge F.D.
The Fire Chiefs Council of Suffolk County awards scholarships, each year, to Suffolk County High School graduating seniors with an immediate family member serving as an active volunteer for the fire department or serve as a fire company member themselves . Additional scholarships are available to active volunteer firefighters or EMS members for continuing education. Applications for 2015 are available online and must be postmarked by April 15, 2015.
The Fire Chiefs Council of Suffolk County has been serving the interests of the Fire Service of Suffolk County and their Communities with respect to quality Fire and Emergency Medical Service since 1945. The Council meets the 2nd Friday of every other month (January, March, May, July, September and November) at host Fire Departments across the County. A guest speaker is presented at these meetings on pertinent issues and concerns affecting the Volunteer Fire Service. The Council represents the Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs and Ex-Chiefs of the 109 Volunteer Fire Departments and Companies from the 10 Townships in Suffolk County.
