Smithtown Doctor Killed By Drunk Driver

Suffolk County Police have arrested Saint James resident, Timothy Burke, for driving while intoxicated after his motor vehicle crashed and took the life of a Pedestrian. On Friday evening, at approximately 8:30 PM,

Timothy Burke, 43, was driving northbound on Route 111, near Maple Avenue, when his 2006 Dodge Charger struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street at the time.

Smithtown resident and Doctor, Kenneth Rich, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Burke has been charged with driving while intoxicated and was arraigned on Saturday in First District Court,in Central Islip.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have information about the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555.
