Smithtown Coach Flynn Teacher of the Year

Most of Smithtown just calls her Coach Flynn… But today the Smithtown High School East/Mt. Pleasant Elementary School phys ed teacher, Helen Flynn is taking a bow as a Teacher of the Year. The New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance has selected Helen Flynn as a recipient of its 2015 Secondary Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award. Coach Flynn was honored for her achievement at the Board of Ed’s meeting last Tuesday, September 8th.

Coach Helen Flynn has taught physical education for thirteen years in Smithtown School Districts. Over the past seven years, Flynn has excelled as the program coordinator for the Athletes Helping Athletes Club at High School East. Most of Smithtown knows Coach Flynn for her work on the varsity field hockey field, as the head coach at High School West. She’s also the assistant varsity coach of both winter and spring girls track and field teams at Smithtown High School East.

Helen Flynn will be officially honored at the Jay B. Nash Awards dinner on Nov. 20 at the Turning Stone Convention Center in Verona, New York.
