Smithtown High School East and High School West Awarded Scholar-Athlete Schools of Distinction
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has recognized both Smithtown High School East and High School West as Scholar-Athlete Schools of Distinction. The prestigious award for the last School year (2014-2015) marks the second time both High Schools were rewarded with the title. The first award came in 2009-2000 calendar year.
In order to earn Scholar-Athlete status, 100 percent of the High School varsity teams have to hold an academic GPA of 90 percent. During the 2014-2015 year, a walloping 53 varsity teams in the Smithtown Central School district have qualified as scholar-athlete teams
