Congratulations are in order, for the Smithtown CSD Athletics Department, in winning a third place award for the W20 Foundation’s Project Team Up 4 Community’s annual Holiday Heroes Challenge. Several Smithtown athletic teams volunteered their time and made various donations to community service causes for local food pantries, shelters, cancer awareness causes and the others. The Smithtown Athletics Department was praised for its philanthropic commitment to making a difference in the community during the 2014-15 school year, by the W20 Foundation’s Project Team Up 4 Community on its website.
“Their projects clearly demonstrate the passion they have to making a difference in the lives of others…We thank Smithtown for assisting the W20 Foundation to deliver this impactful program in and all around our Long Island communities. We recognize athletes and organizations like theirs as our partners in achieving our goal.”
Representatives from W20 Foundation’s Project Team Up 4 Community presented Patrick Smith, coordinator of physical education, athletics, health and nurses, with a $500 grant for their community service efforts, during a Smithtown Board of Education meeting. Several coaches whose teams were involved in community service efforts were present to share in the celebration. Smithtown CSD has chosen to donate the $500 to a number of selected charitable organizations. NBTY’s Helping Hands program is the corporate sponsor of the grant.
