2016 Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at The Heckscher Museum Art Exhibition
Three budding artists from Smithtown have been chosen to exhibit their artwork at the Heckscher Museum of Arts. On Saturday, April 16th, the opening reception and awards ceremony for the annual juried exhibition, Long Island’s Best: Young Artists competition showcased three Artists from Smithtown High Schools. Smithtown High School West junior Laura Minet, received an honorable mention for her pen drawing “The Raven.” Smithtown High School West senior Griffin Reynolds won an award of achievement in black and white for his marker drawing “First Avenue.” And Smithtown High School East senior Maria Impastato’s photograph, “Veiled” was one of the chosen few, to be showcased at the opening exibition.
The Long Island’s Best exhibition celebrated it’s 20th year with record-setting entries. This year, there were 357 student works of art submitted from 53 high schools throughout Suffolk and Nassau Counties. The jury selected the very best 83 works of art created by students, in 44 schools, to be featured in Long Island’s Best. The exhibition is on view at the Heckscher Museum of Arts, through May 15.
