Smithtown Rotary Club And Smithtown Fire Chiefs Organization Present Checks to The Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.
The Rotary Club of Smithtown teamed up with the Smithtown Fire Chiefs Organization today, to present two checks in the amount of $4,550 each to The Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center at Stony Brook Medicine and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network. Thanks to successful fundraising efforts and ticket sales from the 2015 Annual Snowball, held at The Watermill on January 31st, the co-hosts raised close to ten-thousand dollars for the two organizations. John Lussa, on behalf of the Suffolk County Burn Center along with the Firefighter Cancer Support Network’s Tony Cruz and Ron Barz, humbly accepted each check from the Annual Snowball.
The Rotary Club of Smithtown has been serving the community since 1958. Members devote themselves to a simple creed; Service Above Self, making Smithtown and neighboring communities of Suffolk County a better place to live. The Rotary Club of Smithtown contributes over $40,000.00 annually to local community projects.
The Smithtown Fire Chiefs Organization became a non-profit organization in 2005 with the purpose of educating and furthering interests regarding Fire and Emergency Medical Services. In addition to raising awareness for a number of philanthropic causes, The Smithtown Fire Chiefs Organization facilitates annual Scholarships to high school students, provides a number of safety prevention seminars to educate children and adults in preventing and surviving fires and other dangerous situations .
About The Firefighter Cancer Support Network:
The mission of the Firefighter Cancer Support Network is to provide fire department members and their families with an opportunity to receive assistance when dealing with cancer. We maintain a roster of mentors with personal experience who guide you through the process of your specific illness. We recruit volunteers to assist our various committees, specialized task programs, member support activities and specialized events. The FCSN provides awareness to fire service members and their families about the importance of cancer prevention and screening through educational opportunities with various health programs. We provide assistance and guidance for other support options such as behavioral health services, fire service organizations, Fire Service Chaplains, another cancer support programs. The FCSN is in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and the Live Strong Foundation.
About The Stony Brook Burn Center:
As the only designated burn care facility for the more than 1.5 million residents of Suffolk County, the Burn Center at Stony Brook University Medical Center coordinates burn services throughout the county, and provides a resource for training and research in Burn Care. The Burn Center also serves as a resource to neighboring community based hospitals. The Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center Fund has become central to the mission of the Burn Center by providing financial assistance through fund raising for education and research, by donating specialized equipment to the Burn Unit and increasing awareness in the community about Burn Prevention.
