The Town of Smithtown Animal and Adoption Center will be offering Pre-Holiday Adoption holds on Rescue Cats, Kittens, and Dogs. Residents wishing to surprise the family with a four-legged addition can now make arrangements to pick up their new family member over the long holiday weekend. The Shelter will arrange for pickups on Saturday, December 22nd and Tuesday, December 26th.
“This was a spectacular idea inspired by Chief John Valentine, who came up with the notion after his staff of Kennel Attendants and ACO’s were looking for a way to promote adopting rescues verses holiday shopping for pets from puppy mills and retail stores. This not only promotes the Adopt Don’t Shop mentality, it gives our amazing rescues the opportunity of waking up with a Furrever Home all their own for the holidays too.” – Councilwoman Lisa Inzerillo
In addition, the Smithtown Animal & Adoption Center has reduced adoption fees at 50% off through the holiday season. The special adoption rate of $30 (reduced from $60) includes Spay/Neuter, Vaccines, Microchip, and License.
Residents interested in adoption should set aside at least one hour when booking an appointment to meet and interact with a dog or cat they are interested in. After finding your soulmate, simply fill out the Adoption Application and choose the pickup time that works best for you.
Note: If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member to the shelter or set up an at home meet & greet to see how they interact together.
