Smithtown 350 Foundation Showcases Young Talent

One of the countless exciting opportunities The Smithtown 350 Foundation has in store for the next year includes a $1000 scholarship for a 2015 Smithtown Graduate. Any current senior residing in the Town of Smithtown can apply online at the Smithtown 350 Foundation website. The application requires an essay 350-500 words regarding the impact of studying history has affected your take on the world today, recommendation from social studies professor and letter of acceptance from the school you’ve chosen (or most likely) to attend.  The application deadline is May 10th.  Questions and inquiries may be obtain via email: 350scholarship@gmail.com.

Aspiring and talented future Leibovitz, Pollock, Hopper and Warhol’s of the Smithtown Community will also get the chance to be a part of the Sesquarcentennial festivities and showcase their talent.  Any Smithtown Middle or High School Student who fancies themselves as an Artists or a Photographers is encouraged to submit an original masterpiece, be it visual arts or photography to  be displayed at the Mills Pond House Gallery’s Looking into Smithtown’s Past Exhibit. Entries should respond to, reflects, or be inspired by the theme of Smithtown’s Sesquarcentennial Celebration; Looking into Smithtown’s Past. Entry Deadline: April 24, 2015. Exhibition will run from May 23rd through June 16th 2015 at the Mills Pond House Gallery. Cash prizes awarded include a $500 first place prize, a $350 second place prize and a $150 third place prize. About the Smithtown 350 Foundation

The Smithtown 350 Foundation, Inc.  is a not-for-profit corporation that was created by residents of Smithtown, who volunteered their time and joined together to form an organization that would organize and coordinate the celebration of Smithtown’s 350th Anniversary, Smithtown’s Sesquarcentennial. The committee, formed by Town Historian Bradley Harris will actively promote, direct, and run activities and events on behalf of the Town of Smithtown. The foundation also promotes interest in Smithtown’s history through participation and involvement of Smithtown 350th events from residents, schools, other organizations, businesses, and corporations.
