It takes quite a bit of courage to shave one’s head… But for one local middle school community, gallantry runs deep, when it comes to saving lives. On March 11th, 2016 over 60 students, parents and staff members of the East Northport Middle School community united in a St Baldricks shaved heads fundraiser. Over sixty male and female team members, known as the Bald Tigers, shaved their heads, raising nearly $24,000 in the quest to cure childhood cancer.
The East Northport Middle School team has raised over $160,000 in the good fight against childhood cancer, since its launch in 2009. Seventh-grade science teacher and Team captain, John Braun was proclaimed Knight Commander, in his 11th year with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Also recognized for years of dedication, were the Middle School’s student. Squires of Hope, Max Bratchie, Joseph Canavan, Philip Greenwood, Connor Mulligan, Jake Pennino, Alyssa Voskinarian and Liam Wine were all awarded for three years of service. Honorary Knight of the Bald Table: Thomas McDonagh was also recognized for seven years of participation as a Bald Tiger. But this year’s VIP award goes to one eighth grader. Thomas Sandrib was this years top fundraiser for the district, raising $3,000 to defend the nation’s children against Childhood Cancer.
Tigers would like to thank everyone who made the St. Baldrick’s event a huge success. To view their fundraising event page visit St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s Bald Tigers page.
