Firefighters Battle Smithtown House Fire Early Morning Saturday

A family of three and their two dogs are lucky to be alive this morning.  At approximately 4:29 AM Saturday morning, The Smithtown Fire Department got the call to respond to a residential structure fire or a 13-35 at 25 Eckernkamp Drive.

housefiresfdaBy the time the fire department arrived, the three residents plus two canine family members were able to safely exit the home. The responding Fire Departments quickly got to work on the two story, fully involved, Smithtown house fire. Fire Department Public Information Officer, Jeff Bressler reports that the smoke detectors woke the family up, allowing them to escape the burning home as the fire gained intensity.

Smithtown house fireThe Smithtown Fire Department received mutual aid in the blaze from Kings Park F.D., St. James F.D., Hauppauge F.D. and Commack Volunteer Ambulance. At 5:06 AM the exterior fire had been extinguished. Firefighters continued to attack the blaze inside, focusing on the second floor of the home, as the majority of the fire was on the first level. A half hour later, at 5:36AM firefighters had succeeded in knocking out the blaze and continued to look for remaining hotspots. By 6:18 AM all responding fire departments had returned to quarters.

Smithtown Chiefs Murphy, Landrigan, Fitzpatrick and Diecidue Responded to the alarm with, Engines 4-2-2, 4-2-3, 4-2-4, 4-2-5, Rescue 4-2-9, Ladder 2-2-7, Fire Police 4-2-10 and Ambulances 4-2-61, 4-2-62, 4-2-65.

There were no reported injuries.
