Report on Smithtown Animal and Adoption Center Exceeds Industry Standards

The Smithtown Animal and Adoption Center underwent a recent Inspection Report performed by NY State Agriculture and Markets Law Division of Animal Industry. The inspection was orchestrated after misinformation and rumors on social media prompted a concerned resident to request the report. In an effort to ensure all residents, the Smithtown Department of Public Safety welcomed the inspection of the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets to the shelter.

Animal Health Inspector Sarah Mann noted the efforts and leadership at the center as a contributing factor to the transition of the shelter to a model facility for other jurisdictions in the area. The rigorous inspection noted sanitary conditions, veterinary care, clean housing, equipment, and ample food & water among a list of other positive findings. There were no negative comments or violations found in the report.

“I have the utmost confidence in our Staff and leadership. The report is definitive proof by an outside source that our constant focus on improving shelter operations, animal intake, veterinary services and animal adoption initiatives is on the proper path. This is all due in part to the many volunteers, our devoted team of animal lovers, and the leadership of Smithtown Public Safety, and I am so grateful for their work.” – Councilwoman Lisa Inzerillo, liaison to the Smithtown Animal and Adoption Center

The report notes that since the last inspection by the NY State Agriculture and Markets Law Division of Animal Industry, the Smithtown Animal and Adoption Center has taken in 200 dogs. Currently, there are seven dogs awaiting a forever home at the facility, giving the adoption center a fantastic turnover average.
