In the wake of the “bomb cyclone” that affected the Township last night, many residents are dealing with the aftermath and cleanup of downed power lines, outages, and downed trees. The Highway Department will be out on brush pickup and tree removal throughout the week. The Parks Department has removed trees from town parks and administrative buildings. While highway, traffic safety, parks and public safety teams work diligently to clean up the damage, residents should refer to the helpful guide below for post Nor’Easter cleanup.
Down Street Trees: Trees within the town’s right of way (alongside a town road) are in general the responsibility of the Highway Department. Residents with down trees on property lines can call the Department of Environment and Waterways (DEW) at (631) 360-7514 to inspect the tree and determine the best course of action. Trees that are not in the town’s right of way are the responsibility of the resident.
How to Place Branches and Brush at the Curb for Pickup: Please place separately piled branches at the curb, not in the street. Branches should be neatly bundled, no longer than 6 feet in length, and piled no higher than 5 feet. Please be mindful not to stack branches near fences, light poles, fire hydrants, under trees, or on top of drains.
WARNINGS ISSUED BY THE NWS FOR OUR AREA:
A High Wind Warning is in effect from now until 6PM on Thursday, with a 20 percent chance of showers. The high winds make it likely to cause other trees to fall today.

Animals & Family Pets: All domestic animals should remain indoors or under supervision while the dangerous wind advisory remains in effect, with the exception of allowing dogs to venture out to go to the bathroom. Elderly Neighbors & Special Needs individuals: Please check on your neighbors with disabilities, special needs and senior citizens. Make sure they have an emergency phone, plenty of water, food and blankets. Ask if they have someone to call in the event of an emergency.
