Paws of War Opens Nesconset Branch

Legislator Leslie Kennedy was on hand in Nesconset this week to celebrate the opening of a new Paws of War branch. The Non-for-Profit organization began in 2012 with a vision to place shelter dogs with Long Island Veterans. The Nesconset Paws of War branch is a great step forward in helping Veterans, coping with PTSD, to transition to civilian life with the unconditional love of Man’s Best Friend to help them move forward.

paws_of_war“Far too often, man has failed to stand up for the men and women who risked their lives in service of our nation… but man’s best friend has never failed to do so. Through Paws of War, I hope that they will once more be able to heal the unseen wounds of those veterans whom we have been unable to reach.” -Legislator Leslie Kennedy

Shelter Dogs are often rescued from devastating conditions. Much like our Veterans, coming home with the mental wounds of war, rescue dogs want nothing more than a loving home, where they can fit in. By training and pairing these grateful companions, Paws of War is able to save two lives at the same time.

  • Every Eight Seconds, an Animal is euthanized in a U.S. Shelter

Paws of War Mission: To train and place shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our Veterans across the Country, suffering from P.T.S.D. and other mental wounds of war. A careful evaluation and training program is implemented, prior to placing each dog, so every Veteran may experience the therapeutic and unconditional love only a companion animal can give. Paws of War pays for all initial costs, through the generosity of public donations and Volunteers.
