Why The Nesconset Summer Concert Series is More than just Free Music

Music fans from all over long island come out to enjoy the summer concert series at the Nesconset Gazebo. But it’s much more than a free concert. Showstopping renditions of our National Anthem, are performed each Tuesday by Smithtown Students like Leighann Guardino. Long Island Cares is on hand prior to and during the evening to collect canned food items for families in need.  Most would agree that the heart and soul of our community is best represented every Tuesday evening, made possible thanks to the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce and Legislator Leslie Kennedy.

nesconset summer concert seriesJust two weeks ago, Congressman Lee Zeldin introduced Long Island’s own 2016 Olympian and Speedracer, Maria Michta-Coffey before presenting a special POW MIA Flag, he had flown over the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, DC. After the special flag presentation, by a team of US Army soldiers, concert goers participated in a special fundraiser to help pay for travel expenses to Rio for Maria’s Family, so they may witness and support the proud member of Team USA, during this monumental occasion.

We asked Legislator Kennedy why the Summer concert series is so important to her.

“ Summer on Long Island is like none other, and for me the Nesconset Summer Concert series embodies summer in this community. Folks from all over congregate to not only enjoy a free concert but also to give back, we have collected food for those in need, we have helped an Olympian’s family with their travel down to the Rio, we have honored our troops with a new POW/MIA flag from our Congressman Lee Zeldin. Everyone comes together to make this work, the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce  runs this series so smoothly and the Suffolk County Police and Auxillary Police do a wonderful job of keeping us safe, and making sure that traffic moves smoothly. Not only have we been enjoying these beautiful summer nights but we have also been giving back, and the people in Nesconset and the surrounding area are generous people. Just like summer this concert series seems to go so fast and I cherish every moment of it.” – Legislator Leslie Kennedy

The summer concert series is produced by Nesconset Chamber of Commerce board member, Jim Dellahanty, who also founded the event in 2008. Dellahanty selects the very best tribute bands from all over Long Island. His musical background has played a key role in the growing popularity and economic stimulus thanks to this annual concert series.

Don’t miss the final two concerts at the Nesconset Gazebo. This Tuesday evening,  August 9th, Beginnings performs their tribute to Chicago. If you love Rock ballads, get your lighters out for the BRB Band, performing August 16th in the final 2016 Nesconset Summer Concert.
