Eleven Smithtown High School Seniors are among the best and brightest in the Nation today. The 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program announced eleven Smithtown High School Students have been named semifinalist. The elite group of Smithtown H.S. Seniors are among some 16,000 students selected, Nationwide out of 1.5 million applicants.

Each year, more than 1.5 million students compete to earn one of 7500 national merit scholarships, comprising of over $33 million dollars. In order to be chosen as a semifinalist, high school seniors exhibit an extraordinary academic standard. The National Merit Scholarship Program selects semifinalists based on the top indexed PSAT scores, for seniors planning to attend College after graduation. All Semifinalists will move on to compete in the finals, based on consistent, high performance in academics, course selection and SAT scores.
National Merit Scholars will be announced in February of 2017. If selected, each senior will have the opportunity to potentially earn one of the 7,500 National Merit Scholarships comprising of $33 million in college scholarship, to be given out in Spring 2017.
