Movie Night at The Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts

Every local who grew up in Smithtown, remembers heading out to Movie Night at the historic landmark theater on Main Street. Nostalgic memories of childhood friends, first dates and family nights live on at the restored theater, thanks to Laura and Ken Washington and the Smithtown Performing Arts Council.  In commemoration of Smithtown’s 350th Anniversary, we can relive our favorite memories or make some new ones, watching classic movies in the theater again.

Movie weekends kicked off after Thanksgiving at The Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts, with iconic cinema productions, King Kong and Gone with the Wind. Since then cult movie classics like A Christmas Story and theme weekends such as Hitchcock marathons, have locals and neighboring communities alike returning to the historic Movie House.

Upcoming weekends include a wide range of classics, from Rebel Without a Cause and One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, to award winning blockbusters like E.T. and Jaws. Adults and kids alike can look forward to Disney Week in Spring, as well as Superhero hits, such as Iron Man, Christopher Reeves Superman, both Bale and Keaton’s Batman. The Calendar of Classics will close on Halloween weekend with a modern day suspense thriller, featuring The Sixth Sense and closing with the original and terrifying film, The Exorcists.  Whether you break out your vintage T-shirts and acid washed jeans to bring back the good old days or invite new generations out, it’s time for a magical movie night.
