Nesaquake Math Teacher Turns a Numbers Lesson into A giving story

Ever make a wish on a penny?  Thanks to Nesaquake math teacher, Matthew Kennedy, one-hundred and four thousand, four-hundred and sixty-seven wishes on a penny can be made! What began as one teachers way of  giving students a better understanding of numbers, has evolved into a giving equation!  Nesaquake Middle School mathematics teacher, Matthew Kennedy, originally founded the Penny Project, to show students number concepts. But thanks to his efforts and the pennies from his students, Nesaquake was able to make a $1,044.67 donation to the Make a Wish Foundation.

The Penny Project, was originally created as a fun lesson for Kennedy’s students. Each year his Math students were encouraged to their bring loose pennies from home, to fill the jars up at school. The collection of pennies was at 84,559 before the start of the school year. However,  Nesaquake Middle Schoolers sent that number over the 100,000 mark,  collecting 19,908 pennies this school year.  With all the pennies, collected throughout the year, Nesaquake Middle School put the Math lesson to a  second source, giving $1,044.67 to the Make a Wish Foundation.

The Make a Wish Foundation, grants those wishes, to change the lives of children with life-threatening or terminal illness.  The Make a Wish Foundation exceeds the expectations of every wish it grants, bringing hope and hapiness to the lives of all who are a part of each dream come true.
